Good morning! I hope y’all had a great weekend. I feel like my weekend was filled with food, fun, productivity and shopping. Friday night we had dinner at Zapatista, a Mexican restaurant in Lincoln Park. As I mentioned Friday, I had a Travelzoo voucher we put to use. The amount of items we got with the $39 voucher was ridiculous – guacamole, salad (although Ben opted not to have one; surprise, surprise), fajitas and enchiladas, bananas foster and two margaritas!

The guacamole was made fresh, although it wasn’t tableside. I’m not sure if it’s because Ben ordered it mild or what, but we both agreed that there was too much lime. My salad was delicious; mixed greens (dark and luscious purples and greens), with a chili-basalamic vinaigrette dressing. Light and just ever so spicy. My fajitas came out in a sizzle “lava” bowl. They were delicious, but I was so full from chips, guac and salad that I didn’t eat much of them (hence, my lunch today being leftover fajitas). The margaritas were good. We both opted for them on the rocks and they were tasty; unfortunately for $8 a pop they were rather small.
However, I think Ben and I will both agree that the most entertaining portion of our meal was the dessert. The waitress recommended the bananas foster so we went for it. A server comes out with a metal bowl and says “watch out”. Next thing you know he is pouring liquids (alcohol?) over the bananas and we have a three foot flame in front of us. Unfortunately we weren’t quick enough to get out our camera and take a picture. It tasted just as good as it looked. Without the voucher, we would have paid $66 for everything, which still isn’t too bad considering what we got. The atmosphere was kind of dark and romantic. We called ahead at 6:30 to see if we needed reservations and were told to come in at 7:30. The restaurant is fairly big (although awkwardly shaped like an “L”, but when we came in there were just a few handfuls of tables. By the time we left, the place was packed! We both agreed that for the total package; price, food and ambiance, it’s going on our list of dining options for the future.
