Deals and Steals and Running Music

Wow, it feels like this week has flown by! Happy Friday!  I spent some time updating my ipod nano last night for the race.  I found a $15 iTunes giftcard and put it to good use and then some…now my only debate is that according to the library’s website, Lady Gaga’s Fame Monster cd is in transfer for me to borrow. Thus, I’m holding off until tomorrow to purchase any Lady G songs in hopes that the cd will come and I can save the money.  Songs I downloaded, I usually just look at Billboard Top 100 (this may clue you in as to the last time I actually downloaded songs):
  • Fly - Rihanna & Nicki Minaj
  • Give Me Everything - Pitbull
  • Grenade - Bruno Mars
  • Just Can't Get Enough - Black Eyed Peas
  • On the Floor - J. Lo
  • Only Girl (In the World) - Rihanna
  • Lighters - Bad Meets Evil
  • Live Your Life - Rihanna & T.I.
  • Love the Way You Lie - Eminem
  • Moves like Jagger - Maroon 5
  • Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
  • S&M - Rihanna
  • Stereo Hearts - Gym Class Heroes
  • Superbass - Nicki Minaj
  • Till the World Ends - Britney
  • You Make Me Feel - Cobra
(Wow, this also makes me realized some others I need/want to get:  Girls Run the World  - Beyonce(a lot of people on FB suggested this, I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas, I Wanna Go - Britney Spears...and I'm sure more to come)

I have been running to the same mix of old songs all summer and as I downloaded about 20 songs last night and put them on my nano; it’s sad, but I got seriously excited knowing that I’m going to have time to listen to them all.  The realization that the new songs are only going to get my through about 20% of the race is a reminder of how friggin low it’s going to be!  But I’m definitely one to just kind of space out during my long runs…I don’t remember much of my 22-miler at all.  Let’s hope the marathon goes the same way.

I have quite a few Foodie Friday recipes to share, so I’ll be uploading those between today and tomorrow.  After work tonight I’m going with SIL to the marathon expo and meeting H there to pick up our race packets and browse around.  During the expo for the half-marathon in August; I thought I was going to through up from my nerves, and I’d run a half-marathon before; so I’m hoping this goes well.  After the expo we’re headed to a nearby Italian place, La Gondola, to do our carbo-loading for race day.  We’ve been a few times and while the food’s great, the service can sometimes be hit-or-miss; so I’m hoping we’re lucky tonight.  IL’s generously gave us a good luck card and cash for a nice dinner for the marathon.  However, we also have a Groupon that expires soon for La Gondola; so we’re planning on using the leftover dinner cash for some celebratory beers after the race.  Other than that, we’re just trying to take it easy and coast through today and tomorrow.

We found out yesterday we had the opportunity to go to the Blackhawk’s (hockey) opening game on Saturday.  H is a pretty lucky guy when it comes to winning contests; at lunch he registered for a Blackhawk’s contest and a few hours later got an email that he’d won 4 200-level tickets for Saturday’s game (from what we can tell, valued around $150 a piece) and also a chance to play some debit card shuffle game on the jumbo-tron for a chance to win a prepaid debit card…considering the game is at 7:30pm on Saturday; it takes about 45 minutes to get home from there and we need to leave our place by 5am Sunday, regrettably H denied the tickets.  The positive thing I keep telling him is that with the tickets worth, it’s very likely we would have had to pay taxes on them.

Last year we went through a fiasco with a local radio station and a prize package H won including 2 r/t Amtrak tickets to Milwaukee, 2 Summerfest (music festival) tix, 2 Brewers baseball tix and 2 tix to Harley Davidson museum.  The radio station said the prizes were valued at $750 so H had to sign an affidavit for tax purposes.  When tax time came around a few months later and I was filing, I realized we were paying about $140 in taxes for these prizes; so we did some back checking and added up that the prizes were only worth $250.  We had to make several calls to the radio station until they finally admitted that we were given the wrong Summerfest tickets (we were supposed to get some VIP all access tix and instead we got general admission) and that the guy who’d written up the package worth had messed up and was no longer working for the radio station.  In the end; they retracted the form stating that we had to pay taxes; but it was still a pain in the butt to deal with.

Now, here is some random Chive postings H has sent me.  Happy Friday!

Not much going on for weekend sales:
·         J Crew Factory: open for business; up to 50% off and free shipping through Monday
I absolutely am in love with this; but am not willing to pay $168 for it from a factory store.  However, I'm totally diggin on the blazers this year.  I'm hoping to pick up a few, as right now I only have a black crushed velvet and even with that, I'm a little iffy if I like the velvet or not.

·         Michaels: Coupon Bonanza
·         Old Navy: Rocktoberfest Sale through 10/10 (includes women’s pull over ½ zip fleeces for $8 and full zip fleece for $10!  I love these for winter running); in stores and online
