Holiday Cheer

I'm still pinching myself that Christmas is next week. With the move, our traditions and routine of the holidays aren't quite the same. I'm not sure I'd realize it was holiday season if I hadn't insisted we get a tree.

You would think for sure that in Denver's surrounding area there would be plenty of spot to cut down your own tree...but after spending some time on google it seemed like our only option was to get a license to cut from a forest.  My sister has joked that since moving to CO my style as become more lumberjack (see below), but I'm not quite there there!
J Crew Factory Vest (similar) // Lands End flannel (similar)

Instead, we opted for a tree lot conveniently located at Little Man Ice Cream.  Ice cream and a Christmas tree? I was in Heaven.
Oscar got his first taste of LM and LOVED it! He may even be a bigger fan than his momma.

We're adapting more and more into our new life. Oscar loves having Ben home with him.  Ben likes working from home, but I can also tell it's sometimes a struggle not to be in a typical work environment. But it has it's perks; for him: being able to wear sweat pants, make lunch or go for a lunch run; and for me: coming home to a clean apartment (included mopped floors) and clean laundry (this guy's a keeper!).

Sometimes I feel like I'm putting too much pressure on me/us to "get going" making friends, volunteering and to build up our connections here. Then I take a deep breath and remind myself, we've been here not even two months. We'll enjoy the holidays and then I'll try to put more effort into those goals in the new year.

We just need to get through the holidays, right Osc? It looks like he's already tired of them.
After all, it IS the most wonderful time of the year.

More (f)or Less - Dog Sweater

To date, this is one of my favorite outfits blogged (and grr Blogger for eating my old pictures) from last fall.

By now, you shouldn't be surpised that I would have bought a bulldog sweater last year. However, I have had a difficult time wearing it often because it's not quite kosher for the office.

So when I was in Indy recently and requested we stop by C. Wonder after visiting in NYC (how is there not one of these in Chicago yet?), I was smitten to come across a dog sweater, neutral and abstract enough that I could wear in the office.

What I wasn't smitten with? The price tag of $88. Sure, it's merino wool, but that also meant it felt light-weight and that it may pill easily.  So when my SIL sent my a duplicate of it from JCPenney at a fraction of the price, you'd better believe I hopped in the car!

Which would you buy?

What iWore - THE necklace

There's one particular necklace I find myself reaching for quite often and regardless how much I wear it, it's bound to get me a compliment or two.  I've struggled to find similar necklaces for recommendations here on the blog because they tend to sell out so quickly (Bauble Bar, Modcloth, etc). I was so happy to see a similar option posted by Meghan earlier this week on Everyday Fashion and Finance.  Target, of course, now has a similar necklace. What doesn't Target have?!

Here are a few recent styling of mine. Get yours before it sells out.

10/8's Deals and Steals

Last night I attended a work happy hour with several coworkers and clients. Lucky for me, my dad is a client of our company, which meant I got to see him for the first time in over two months when I last went home. While I had fun, how can you not with a view like this and a mac n' cheese bar?, it's safe to say I'm utterly exhausted. My cold is rushing in and I was tempted to call in sick today, but I didn't want to seem like a lush.
We were asked to dress business smart, which gave me an excellent opportunity to wear this sheath dress for the first time. I recently bought it on a whim from H&M; $35 for a versatile work dress? Oh wait, it gets better, it's on sale for $10 online. You need  one of these!
Blazer - H&M (similar), Heels - Target
Any who, how was your night? I'm thinking that trading in my run for sweatpants on the couch sounds like an excellent post-work plan.

What iWore Wednesday 9/25

Last year one of the "hot" items in blog world seemed to be this Old Navy sweater. I was lucky enough to snag one during an outlet shopping trip last Fall. Although the quality isn't great (it's definitely stretched out), this sweater will probably stick around one more year for me. It's such an easy go-to to say goodbye already.
Sweater - Old Navy Fall 2012 (similar) // Pants - H&M (similar) // Shoes - Anne Klein similar) // Necklace - Randolph Street Market purchase (pretty much identical) // Watch - Michael Kors Runway
For an easy day-to-night/work-to-dinner transition, I swapped bottoms for some rolled jeans and Tory Burch Revas.

What iWore - 9/4

I've been trying to blog this outfit for two weeks now with technical failures. Finally the Blogger gods decided to grant me access, so enjoy.

Don't you love when you pick up sometime cheap on a whim and it turns into a favorite item? Enter the Target peplum top I purchased this spring after seeing it on Instagram. This top has definitely got it's $22 worth this summer!

Top - Target Mossimo (exact; similar) // Pants - H&M (similar) // Shoes - Circa via Nordstrom Rack (not similar, but love these) // Necklace - Randolph Street Market* (similar but different coloring), // Watch - Kate Spade (similar)
*I suppose this necklace also falls into the 'cheap but overly worn' category as well for me (worn here and here)

What iWore Wednesday - 8/7

Okay, okay, so I know I'm still lacking in posting a recap of our most recent trip to Colorado (you can find older trips here and here), but in my defense, I took a lot of pictures; which means a lot of editing!

These pictures were some of my first taken in Denver this trip (well after a delicious breakfast at Snooze and a shower).  This was my, I just spent the night in a car, need to fix my hair and makeup, pose to tell my family we'd arrived safely.
And this, was my casual, let's go on our own beer walking tour, outfit:
Dress - H&M (old, similar) // Belt - J. Crew (similar color) // Sandals - Target Lavada Sandal (seriously, so versatile, affordable and comfy) // Necklace - Randolph Street Market purchase (similar but sold out) // Chain Bracelet - Yuni Kelly // Watch - Michael Kors Runway
And this is Ben and I enjoying some of those delicious cold local brews picture.
Plenty more pictures and details to follow...

What iWore Wednesday - 7/17

In the past year, I've become much more practical with my shopping and spending.  I like to think that I now have a good grasp on how to shop for items that I can wear for work and for fun so that I can get more bang for my buck.  Given that recently we're trying be diligent with our budget, these outfits are a perfect example (although actually everything except my sandals was purchased over a year ago. I'll try my best for you to be able to recreate), of shopping smart.

Two for One

Tank - Ann Taylor Loft (similar, similar (but navy)) // sweater - Target (similar and only $15!) // denim - DL 1961 Angel (as I've mentioned before, this inseam is perfect for my 5'5" frame that I don't need hemmed) // sandals - Dolce Vita (via TJ Maxx this spring; similar) // Bubble necklace - Ebay // Pencil skirt - Gap  (similar) // Flats - Tory Burch Revas

And, as always, my daily accessories of Yuni Kelley bracelet and Michael Kors watch
How do you shop and style your outfits to work for your professional and your play lifes?

It may be hard to believe, but thse outfits are from the past week in Chicago.  Yes, tights in May in Chicago, that's how cold it's been.  In fact, I just learned that Memorial Day 2013 was the coldest we've had in 16 years, with an observed high of 66.
