A Camping We Will Go

Early last week, we looked at the forecast and deciding it would be a great weekend to go camping.  With our trip, volunteering and parent's visits; our fall is filling up fast, so we decided to take the opportunity to camp.

We asked BandB if they were interested. Once they said yes, it was a done deal.  We were going to go camping.  We decided on Illinois State Beach Park.  The reviews are great, it's an hour from the city, and allows dogs and alcohol (I'm not sure which of the two is more important for our camping).

We set out to reserve our spots online and then we didn't.  Thursday we realized that all reservable spots were full; not only for them, but for every campsite within two hours of Chicago.  Apparently everyone wanted to take advantage of the forecasted mini-70 degree sunny weather like us.  After much debate and a phone call, we decided to take our chances and attempt to get one of 50 walk-ups (nonreservable site) the day of.

After loading up the car, literally to the brim between the two couples and each couples' dog; we were off!

We had no issues getting there, but getting checked in was another story.  They had plenty of walk-ups available; it's just that it took an hour to get checked in.  Okay, I'm exaggerating.  It took 54 minutes; literally.  Once we were checked it; we set up camp.

The sites at Illinois State Beach are not secluded like Kettle Moraine least year, but after the initial disappoint (and a beer), we were over it.  All we cared about was the company.

As you may guess from the name, the campsites are just west of Lake Michigan beach front.

We had a great time and here are some pictures to prove it (or maybe just to show off the dogs).

Awkward family photo?

Coda dug a hole...
Oscar helped...
Can you tell bulldogs were not meant to be diggers by nature?
Slobber and dirt don't mix well.
